Resin8

The Resin8 Project represents four years of R&D utilizing advanced methods of surfboard construction to build a stronger, lighter, faster shortboard without compromising performance. Resin8 surfboards use the latest in high grade epoxy resins, aerospace quality cloths and triple density foam cores which are vacuum formed resulting in a composite construction engineered to be flexible and alive under your feet while maintaining lasting durability

The Mission
Resin8 boards are stronger and lighter than traditional polyurethane surfboards giving any surfer the ability to maximize his/ her performance potential. We continue to look forward and work to surpass our current levels as we expect more improvements in the future. Right now our strength/weight ratio is equivalent to anything available on the market. Look after your Resin8 surfboard and it will be with you for more sessions than you would expect
The History
The Resin8 Project was started over four years ago on the premise of designing a line of performance shortboards with flexibility, durability and most importantly performance. Partnering up with one of the best shapers in the world Sam Egan to create the prototypes for our line and working closely with our team of riders. We have developed a line of surfboards to meet the needs of any shortboard rider looking for performance and durablility.
Due to the complexity and limitations on production, distribution has recently been limited to Australia, The United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Portugal. However due to increased demand we have expanded our production facility and for the first time have opened distribution on US shores.
The Shaper
When starting a new surfboard company and you are considering shapers to approach where do you start? Well you start at the beginning of course, and who was there at the beginning SAM EGAN, yes the father of surfing legend Luke Egan. This master craftsman has been shaping boards for over forty years, which equates to more than 50,000 boards made with his own bare hands. He is so bloody good that hes been voted one of the top 5 surfboard shapers in Australia by his peers and hes also been voted as one of the Top 10 best shapers on the planet.

For SAM EGAN the shaping of surfboards is an extension of his love for riding the waves. He wants other people to get the same kick out of it that he does. He pursues the ideal surfboard the way others chase the perfect wave. His passion has not gone unnoticed, attracting plenty of surfers who faithfully stick by his shapes, and there are some high profile customers among them. At one stage, Sam was supplying boards to 14 OF THE TOP 44 WCT surfers, including four world champions.
Sam comes from Newcastle, Australia and has been influencing the shapes of boards since the late 1950s. In fact, many regard Sam as the Godfather of surfing in Newcastle. Its a role he fills with distinction. With that in mind lets consider for a moment all of the champions that have come out of Newcastle, Mark Richards, Mat Hoy, Luke Egan, Josh Ferris, Peter Cornish , Bob Lynch, Peter McCabe, Marty McMilan, Chad Edser, Roger Clements and Simon Law.

Tokoro

Recently the Resin8 crew have been looking for another shaper to exploit their world-class technology for very specialised surfing niches. They have come up trumps yet again. Resin8 is pleased to welcome WADE TOKORO to the Resin 8 team!!! Wade has been shaping in Hawaii for the last 22 years. He has always made boards to suit his surroundings and, due to his proximity to the legendary north shore, he is regarded as ‘THE MAN’ when it comes to making big wave surfboards. He regularly makes boards for many of the top 44 WCT surfers. Riders such as Jamie O’Brien, Bruce Irons, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Occy, Manoa Drollet, Sunny Garcia and Taj Burrows, to name just a few

During his extensive career, Wade has worked mainly with polyurethane. However, for some time he has been investigating alternative manufacturing processes, including moulded boards, PVC sandwich and parabolic rails.
The Materials - Construction
Resin8 boards are built using state of the art construction methods. A triple density core which is vacuum formed and fine tuned by hand. We start with a low density EPS core and wrap it with a high density foam skin. Combined with our custom formulated epoxy the resulting board is 15% lighter than a traditional polyurethane surfboard.
The Materials - Flex

Due to the specially engineered construction the boards feel more alive in the water. Our surfboards eliminate the centerline stringer, which actually limits flexibility, and allow the flex to utilize the sandwich construction to respond to the surfer and wave in a way the feels much more alive. The boards flex response accelerates it through turns and puts the surfer in places on a wave that seemed impossible. A good surfer will notice the difference as soon as he hits the water and starts paddling

The Materials - Construction
Resin8’s provide greater buoyancy, a responsive flex pattern and, of course, an insane shape designed by Sam Egan. The combination of technology and a master craftsmans design results in a board that is hard to blame when a surfer is having a bad day and can put you places on the wave normally difficult to get to. The boards flex characteristics allows it to load up with potential energy as a surfer starts a turn and then releases that energy through the turn resulting in a sling shot effect. The boards incredible durability is suited to surfers who push their equipment to the limits, particularly those who travel a lot and surf hollow waves that snap boards.
The Materials - Durability
The Resin8 experience goes farther than just exceptional performance. Resin8 boards are much stronger than most high performance boards on the market. The epoxy sandwich construction, make the boards lighter and stronger. This means no more pressure dings after only a few surfs and no more cracks when lightly bumped. The boards maintain integrity even after months of continued use. Look after your Resin8 surfboards and it will be with you for many more sessions than you could imagine.
The Line Up - Retro Fish Series
Combining the performance of the new school hybrid fish with Resin8 technology. Single to Double Concave bottom for high speed in the pocket. Prepare to go fast on this one

Shortboard Swallow Series
Strap in and hold on tight this board is built for speed. The template closely resembles a performance shortboard only going wider and thicker for added buoyancy and speed while the swallow tail adds stability when banking turns and helps the board stay commited.

Shortboard Series

Rounded Pin Series
This board is similar to the Short board series but with a rounded pin tail instead of the squash. This board is ideal for those surfers who have a tendency to overpower a squash or swallow tail through turns. Also ideal for waves that have a bit more juice or size. A good step up from the short board series when the surf gets hollow.

Semi-Gun Series
Designed for larger more hollow surf the semi-gun outline and bottom keeps the speed while the pin tail allows for turns in the critical sections with no sliding out. Ideal for waves that get well over head and hollow. Sam placed just a bit more volume under the chest area for increased paddling buoyancy, so it’s no excuses when that set comes your way.
